Travel Salem Honors Maitland, 7 Others Who Boost Tourism
May , 2011
Travel Salem announced the recipients of its “Absolutely Fabulous” Awards at a recent luncheon at the Northern Lights Theatre Pub in South Salem.
Mayor Anna Peterson was there to help celebrate the event and read a proclamation from the City of Salem to recognize National Tourism Week.
The Ab Fab Awards recognize tourism industry partners who have gone above and beyond in 2010-11 to increase the economic impact of visitors. Among the movers and shakers whose collaboration, innovation, and vision were deemed “Absolutely Fabulous” was Reed Opera House VP-Creative Services Rebecca Maitland.
Travel Salem CEO Angie Morris presented Rebecca with the “Absolutely Carpe Diem” Award for researching, and making possible, tours of Downtown Salem’s Underground. Rebecca collaborated with retired Linfield College professor John Ritter in unearthing remnants of an underground life that existed more than a century ago.
“For seizing the opportunity of bringing to life another Salem cultural asset to share with visitors and the community,” Ms. Morris said, “we honor Rebecca Maitland.”
